History

The establishment of KAKDET was spearheaded by 17 CSOs, supported by USAID and MODS in collaboration with the County Government of Kakamega.

An LDO is an umbrella organization with legal standing that represents local organizations, including civil society and the private sector (PS) at the county level.

KAKDET aims to promote and influence development in Kakamega County. Under its Kaunti Kuimarisha Uendelevu APS, (2019), USAID envisioned that, as members of the LDO, local organizations would be empowered to self-organize and build a collective voice for their county’s citizens that enables them to solve their problems and promotes equitable participation by women, young people, and PWDs.

KAKDET is a partnership outreach and management platform to engage key actors to address important challenges in the county. KAKDET’s role will depend on the on-the-ground issues and the strategic choices at play within the county. In some cases, the partnerships will be defined by advocacy; in others, it may be ensuring accountability; and in others, it may be leveraging resources through co-investing.
